Krystle’s vocal talents to take Big Apple by storm

She will take to stage at Talent America in June.

TOTI muso, Krystle Temmerman earned herself a bounty of awards at the national round of the Talent Africa competition in Roodepoort last week, and an opportunity to showcase her talents in New York.

For her flawless stage performances, she will now jet off to the ‘Big Apple’ to participate in the international round of the competition at Talent America from 5 to 17 June.

Krystle earned her SA colours, certificates, medals and a trophy for: Overall senior vocalist; best all round vocalist in SA, best all round entertainer at the competition out of 1,540 performers for which she received a glass medal and two gold medals for earlier performances.

The competition was held at Roodepoort Theatre from 24 to 28 March.

“I am still in shock. After my name was called out for the special awards and I was announced the overall winner, all I could do was thank God.” Krystle represented Rhythmic Studio, both as teacher and entrant. Overall the studio had 10 winners, four vocalists and six dancers who will compete overseas.

The competition saw entrants participate in various categories, including vocals, dance, acting, modelling and instrumentalists. Krystle participated in the open section of the vocal category. “I had more freedom to do what I wanted to do.” One of the vocal judges was Riana van Wyk, well-known in the gospel and Afrikaans music industry.

She performed two songs, ‘All about the base’ by Megan Trainor and ‘The Story’ by Brandi Carlile. Krystle received good reactions to both songs and was the opening vocalist at the showcase on Saturday, where she performed ‘All about the base’.

Now with nationals behind her, she intends to get stage ready for New York. “I will participate in a number of genres including opera. I want to give myself every opportunity to be spotted by a scout. I have to give it my all, as I have worked hard for a number of years.”

In recent months she has also been involved in a number of theatre shows, gigs and corporate work and teaching.

To celebrate her accomplishment there will be a bring and braai get together at Darlene’s Pub on Saturday, 4 April at 2pm.
