Pre-Easter road safety campaign kicks off

Capt Le Roux is thanked for initiating the project and creating the brochures

BRIGHTON Beach SAPS officers began their road safety programme ahead of the Easter holidays on Thursday, 26 March through a brochure campaign.

As people from other provinces arrive for the holidays, the police in partnership with the business sector handed out brochures to educate road users on safety precautions.

Included in the brochures were the following tips, among others:

  • Don’t drink or use banded substances when driving or walking along a road.
  • Ensure your vehicle is roadworthy.
  • Adhere to speed limits.
  • Ensure you and your passengers wear your seatbelts.
  • Enter intersections with caution.
  • Ensure vehicle lights are fully functional for night driving.
  • Pedestrians must walk against traffic, to ensure visibility of oncoming traffic.
  • Pedestrians must cross a road at a pedestrian crossing, and if one is not available only cross the road if it is safe to do so.
  • Don’t cross the road at a blind spot or bend.
  • Children must not cross a road if not under adult supervision.

Brighton Beach SAPS management thanks the Hillside Mall, who not only sponsored our crime awareness initiative, but with Bluff Towers hosted the campaign. Reservist Carmen Jenkins and Captain Louise Le Roux are also thanked for their participation. Capt Le Roux is further thanked for initiating the project and creating the brochures.
