Ex-Toti business woman lauded in UK

She was crowned among the top 10 women in business in Surrey.

CORPORATE communications manager at Miller Brands UK and former Toti resident, Robyn Dunwoodie was crowned one of the top 10 Women in Business in Surrey on 8 March.

“I am thrilled. There were 10 winners out of a total 75, so it is a real honour to be one of the top 10 women in business in Surrey. The other finalists are all very highly qualified and successful, so it still feels slightly unreal. At the awards event, I was sitting near to Adele Parks, the international best-selling author, and I saw her signing autographs for fans. I felt quite humbled to be in such esteemed company.

Importantly, the 10 winners represent a really diverse group in terms of experience, age and industry sector – which is great. At a time when role models are so often chosen based on money, looks or the latest reality TV show, I think it is so important that women in the corporate and commercial fields are also recognised, as hopefully this will inspire other women in the workplace or those thinking of joining the business world. Role models can take various forms, so I am proud to be going my bit for promoting women in business.”

The event was organised and hosted by the Surrey Chambers Business Women in Surrey (BWiS) and took place in March to coincide with International Women’s Day which, along with Robyn’s birthday falls on 8 March, so the evening was all about celebrating and empowering women in the workplace. The event took place at the award-winning headquarters of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

“There was a fantastic panel of guest speakers, so the whole evening was really inspirational.”

Since the event, Robyn has taken part in several media events including press calls and interviews with more still to come over the next year. “I’ll also be working closely with the BWiS to raise their profile and encourage more women to get involved in next year’s event. I’ve received a lot of recognition from colleagues and peers (no requests for autographs yet) which has been great.”

She thanked everyone who voted for her. “I was really blown away by all the support I received from friends, family and colleagues from all corners of the globe – including my home town of Amanzimtoti.”
