Car guards beaten up by litterbugs

All five were arrested but no follow up was made, not even a case was opened against such criminals.

EDITOR – We car guards have been attacked by a group of five guys at the car park at Arbour Crossing.

They came from Pick n Pay and start eating in their car.

When the were done, they dropped all their rubbish in the parking lot, while five metres from them was a bin. When a car guard approached them to tell them about the nearby bin, they started beating the car guard.

Two of the car guards were injured and were taken to Prince Mshiyeni Hospital and the guys left, promising to come back and for sure they came back. Luckily Blue Security were already onsite and Galleria staff too, and they pulled a gun to stop them from fighting. All five were arrested but no follow up was made, not even a case was opened against such criminals.

Why? Because car guards have no rights in SA. Like with refugees, we can die like flies and there’s no problem as long as the boss is making money. We pay before renting 20 parkings in the morning but still we’re not taken care of. Leaders must be aware of the abuse going on against car guards.

Importantly, South Africans must know that we all come from war-torn countries. We can face any war. We are Africans in Africa, not refugees.

CAR GUARD

Ed’s note: This letter was forwarded to the centre management at Arbour Crossing, who confirmed the isolated incident and that SAPS were dealing with the matter. However, an Arbour Crossing spokesman denied the involvement of a gun, and stated that the car guards were advised that they would need to open a case with the SAPS, which they have apparently not done.
