Pink tree wrap project extended to Women’s Day

Buy pink material from the Rotary Club of Amanzimtoti to raise funds for cancer.

THE Rotary Club of Amanzimtoti has embraced the ‘Pink Tree’ initiative and from now until National Women’s Day, 9 August will sell pink material to the public to create awareness of cancer to raise funds for Khanya Hospice.

People are encouraged to wrap trees in pink in front of their houses or offices in Toti and surrounding areas. ‘”Wrap anything in pink. This initiative will help raise much-needed funds for Khanya Hospice, which offers free palliative nursing care to patients diagnosed with cancer. To be diagnosed with the disease can be a traumatic experience, not only for the patient, but for family and friends,” said Hospice CEO, Neil McDonald.

“To be a cancer survivor is a luxury a lot of people do not have. It does help to be a member of a medical aid and to be supported by your loved ones while you concentrate on getting better. However, there are many patients who do not have a medical aid and little, if any financial support. Helping those who need it most is the driving force behind the ‘Pink Tree’ initiative.”

Imagine rows and rows of pink trees down your street or in your area, it will send a message to all. “We are serious about resisting and fighting the disease and offering support to people who need it, but we need your support in this initiative.”

To be part of the drive, contact Rotary and contribute R100 for five metres of pink material. Rotary has bought a kilometre of pink material for this initiative. Challenge your neighbours, colleagues, family and friends by wrapping your trees, pillars, fences and even your business in pink. This should be great fun for a good cause.

“We challenge businesses between Toti and Hibberdene to donate R1,000 for a roll of 50 metres of pink material to drape the trees in front of their businesses or the poles in support of Hospice cancer awareness.”

To buy the pink material, call Aneska on 083-255-2588 or Priscilla 083-446-7661 or visit www.pinktrees.co.za. Call Khanya Hospice on 083-597-8985.
