BREAKING NEWS: Suspected oil slick off Toti

It is thought that, should the spill beach, it would occur near the Toti lagoon area. More updates to follow.

A SUSPECTED oil slick of about 50m wide is being carefully monitored off Amanzimtoti’s main beach by tourism and environmental bodies.

According to Sapphire Coast Toti Tourism chairman, Jacques van Schalkwyk, they noticed the suspected slick earlier today and have despatched boats to survey the dark spill.

Environmental authorities, the beach manager and harbour authorities have been notified and have been monitoring the situation as it unfolds.

At 1.45pm on Tuesday, the dark shadow on the surface of the water is out to sea directly in front of Chain Rocks. It is thought that, should the spill beach, it would occur near the Toti lagoon area.

More updates to follow.
