Tractor needed to help plough for Kingsburgh West creche

If we could get a tractor, it would mean the end of our struggle.

Hard work and dedication has seen a Kingsburgh West creche and pre-school prosper in recent times.

Grace Ngcongo started Silindokuhle from her home in 2003, but when the health department closed her down, she moved the school into two shipping containers on a plot of land in Kingsburgh West. The school now boasts over 100 children in spacious classrooms.

“We have managed to build a two-room structure which was unfortunately not finished due to insufficient funds,” said Grace.

The building is used by department of health staff to hand out medication like ARVs and to immunise children.

“We have managed to obtain three hectares of land for vegetable farming and have harvested beans and potatoes from this land. We did not use all the land to plant, since we couldn’t afford to hire a tractor to farm the whole land for us. We wish to purchase a tractor with tools for us to be able to utilise all the land effectively.

If we could get a tractor, it would mean the end of our struggle, as we will be able to grow our own vegetables to supply the creche, as well as the care centre.

We will also be able to start farming poultry, which will be great for the children’s nutrition at the creche and also to supply food parcels to the care centre.

Thanks to the Toti community for all the donations and sponsorship to our creche and pre-school, which has gone a long way in improving the lives of many in our community.”
