Lions gear up for 51st Highland Gathering

There will be a variety of events for the whole family to enjoy.

PREPARATIONS are well underway for Amanzimtoti Lions Club’s hosting of the 51st Highland Gathering at Hutchison Park, Toti on Saturday, 2 May.

A lifestyle expo will again be held in conjunction with the Gathering.
The crowds can once again look forward to awesome displays of Scottish dancing and pleasant tunes of the bagpipers. But this is not all, there is more entertainment on offer, as singers Keely Crocker and Rowan Graham will provide more musical variety, along with six bands.

Masterchef SA winner, Roxi Wardman will judge the beauty pageant. Budding beauties can enter the Mini Miss Highland Gathering (three to six-years-old); Miss Junior Highland Gathering (seven to 12-years-old) and Miss Highland Gathering (13 to 18-years-old).

There will be a variety of arena events, along with children’s entertainment, two beer tents and a tea garden. Shoppers can browse among the various fleamarket and craft market stalls, as well as food stalls to cater for all tastebuds.
To book a stall, email John.d.k.west@gmail.com. The onus is on food stallholders to obtain certificates from the health department.

The Lifestyle Expo comprises house and garden, health and beauty and outdoor and leisure stalls. To book, email Monique Botha at admin@bigevents365.co.za.
The Highland Gathering, the biggest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, is Toti Lions Club’s main fundraiser for the year.
Last year 13,500 people supported the event.

“The money raised has been used to supply spectacles to over 50 people, hold a lunch at Splash for Ethelbert Children’s Home, sponsor a diabetic child to a weekend camp at Wessa Umgeni Valley in Howick, donate R5,000 to Jona Vaughan Home for Christmas presents for the residents, donate monthly to Toti Welfare for food parcels, supply 10 meals to Tafta for a Christmas lunch, monthly maintenance at JonaVaughan, supplement hearing aids, adopt a toddler at Sinakekele Ministry and donate bursaries to our local schools,” said Lion Carol Botha.

The club is currently organising a library building for a local rural primary school.”These are some of our projects in the area, from time to time we help other people in dire straits.”
