Isipingo rapist gets 12 years

The case was investigated by Umlazi Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

A 31-YEAR-OLD man, Sibusiso Sbongiseni Shabalala was recently convicted and sentenced to 12 years for rape in Durban Regional Court.

“On 11 November 2012, the victim (29) was at a local tavern in Malukazi, Isipingo when she was approached by Shabalala, who forced her into a nearby bush and raped her.

The victim opened a case at Isipingo police station for further investigation. Umlazi Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit took over the investigation and Shabalala was arrested. He was charged accordingly and appeared in court until he was convicted,” said Major Thulani Zwane of the KZN police media centre.

KZN provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended Umlazi Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for the outstanding work that led to the arrest of the rapist.
