Foodie’s blog makes it big

I don’t believe recipes should be kept a secret, especially if they are delicious.

A Toti foodie’s blog was awarded runner-up in the food and wine category for the SA Blog Awards 2014.
St Winifreds’ Megan Deane (28) started her blog ‘Stuffed Feeling’ in May 2012.

“Ever since I left university my goal was to work for a food magazine. Unfortunately, I haven’t quite achieved that, however Stuffed Feeling was my way of taking my destiny into my own hands and making my dream some kind of a reality,” said Megan.

“I am also one of those annoying people who take pictures of what I am eating and announce it on social media. With my blog, my food pictures now serve a better purpose.

I was absolutely shocked Stuffed Feeling was awarded runner-up in the SA Blog Awards.
The first phase of the entry is a public vote and I honestly didn’t think I knew enough people to spread the word and have them vote for me.

The second phase was the judging panel, who obviously saw something special in my blog as well.
I truly didn’t expect to come anywhere, but I am happy it’s been recognised.”
Megan was born in Durban, South Africa and moved to Toti to attend Kingsway High School.
She completed a BA degree in media, communication and culture at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, but was always interested in food.

“From the moment I was able to eat solids, food had my full attention. In most of my childhood pictures I am eating food.
I can’t remember the exact age I started cooking. When I was a toddler and couldn’t reach the countertop, I used to stand on a chair to microwave my food. Although I wouldn’t consider that cooking, I know I was young when I started.
In high school I either helped with supper or was left to my own devices to cook the entire meal.
I owe a lot to the amazing support family and friends have given me.

Stuffed Feeling started with a handful of family and friends following, sharing and spreading the posts on social media and talking about it.
With their help and hard work on my side, this little food blog has truly blossomed and I owe its success to the support from its followers.

My passion for food has also played a big part. It’s kept me going, even when at times I thought my efforts were pointless.”
Megan’s blog boasts between 150 and 200 visits a day and she encourages people to subscribe.
“I focus on home cooking. The recipes shared are family recipes.

I don’t believe recipes should be kept a secret, especially if they are delicious.”
