Clever Cleven does Valentine’s Day on a budget

We decided to spend R50 on a gift for each other and nothing more.

Capping their Valentine’s Day spending at R50 each didn’t stop a romantic Toti man from expresses his feelings to his one true love on Saturday, 14 February.

According to Cleven Naidoo, he and his wife Meryl normally overspend on Valentine’s Day, but this year decided to say no to gifts and yes to quality family time.

“We decided to spend R50 on a gift for each other and nothing more,” said Cleven.

“I bought paint and made a 6m x 3m banner, declaring my love for Meryl, which I hung on the entrance to our complex. I also made a three-metre poster covered with poems, which I hung on our lounge wall.

We could not go out because our son is only six-months-old, so I borrowed a projector and turned our lounge into a cinema.”
Cleven capped off his date night with a romantic drive.

He said his banner was well received by neighbours, with people stopping and taking photos.

“Meryl was really blown away and kept telling me people need to know that money cannot buy love and I am every woman’s dream guy.

Being the modest man I am, I just told her I did it all for her and to let the world know I love her to the moon and back.

Friends and neighbours said they will come to me for ideas next Valentine’s, but I just laughed them off.

This only cost me R44 and we had the best Valentine’s Day ever.”
