Cat sanctuary clean-up just purrfect

The heavy-duty clean-up is done.

THE hard work of cleaning-up at Purr-fect Rescued Cats sanctuary in Athlone Park continued on Sunday, 8 Feburary.

A revamp has been underway at the sanctuary for the last three weeks, kickstarted by 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue, whose aim was to pay it forward by helping another animal NPO. Volunteers, including the Army Saints, quickly came on board to help.

Overall seven flatbed bakkie loads of rubbish were removed. “I am so happy 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue has been able to help another animal NPO which is struggling. This has only been made possible by the wonderful support from the public. The heavy-duty clean-up is done. We conquered what we came to do,” said the organisation’s Jacqueline Smith.

According to Linda Weldon-Church who runs the sanctuary, Sunday was another fantastic day. “After all they have done already, 4 Paws donated a strong broom, rake and hosepipe with fittings which was divided into two and placed neatly on brackets on the walls. Jacqueline also brought plants and the volunteers and workers were once again busy planting, making new shelves, replacing old rotten wood with new pieces. Thanks to Segi of Nadasens Hardware for the donation of wood as well as so many people who phoned with offers and delivered or donated wood, mesh, shade cloth, pots, potting soil, cat items and a gate – all so greatly received. There are too many to mention by name, but thank you all so much.”

Linda also thanked Shaun Callaghan and Chanel Geldenhuys of the Army Saints who arrived with tins of paint from Medal Paints and Paint 360. “Shaun then went off to buy three large pieces of wood sheeting which have since been painted and used to replace old wood. The painting has started to make such a difference, with Jaqueline’s vision of moving things away from the house and opening up some areas, it has made a fantastic difference and is really coming together and looking great. I cannot wait to see it finished.

Linda has been receiving many missed calls and apologises. “I am unable to always answer as I am so busy and don’t always have my cellphone on me. If people want to get hold of me and I am not able to answer at that moment and do not have the air-time to reply, SMS or send an email to lindachurch54@gmail.com. However, I need to stress that the sanctuary is full and I cannot take in any more cats needing homes. I am under such strain trying to feed my own fur children, sad stories of other cats in need really upsets me.”
Linda appeals for donations of cat food. If anyone is able to help, contact her on 072-752-0324.
