Cameras to keep main beach parking crime-free

Our plans for the near future are to get the promenade sorted out and under surveillance.

Criminals beware – Toti main beach parking lot is now under surveillance.

Thanks to assistance and sponsorship from Happy Days Holiday Flats, Clear Waters Spur, ET Security and Skytec Wireless, three cameras now cover the entrance and both parking lots.

The cameras’ live feed is sent to ET Security’s control room, based in Amanzimtoti, and is monitored 24-hours, backed by armed response.

This follows the success of a pilot project in December where Toti main beach was under camera surveillance and this assisted in arrests being made.

“This is a joint venture partnership between local businesses,” said Sapphire Coast Toti Tourism chairman, Jacques van Schalkwyk, who has been instrumental in getting the project up and running.

“Happy Days, although not in the immediate area the cameras cover, has seen the need for surveillance cameras and the importance of tourism in Toti and thus assisted with funding to kick-start this project.

Spur has come on board with the funding of a pan, tilt and zoom camera and ET Security has funded one camera and the running of the control room.

This is a pro-active initiative, rather than reactive and a step closer to our vision of creating a ‘crime-free zone’.

As we receive more funding and more business partnerships are formed, so we will be able to extend the coverage under surveillance.

The service provider is Skytec Wireless, who also assisted us with the pilot project, and they provide the link between the cameras and the control room.

Our plans for the near future are to get the promenade sorted out and under surveillance.”
