Rotary extends Hospice-funding pink drive

The Toti club challenges other clubs to join in and participate in the new drive.

The Rotary Club of Amanzimtoti has taken up a new drive to sell pink material from World Cancer Day on 4 February to National Woman’s Day on 9 August, to raise funds for Khanya Hospice.

“Rotary club members worked around the clock for about the last three months of last year, wrapping trees in pink material in and around Toti to raise funds and awareness for Khanya Hospice, which offers free palliative nursing care to patients with cancer on a daily basis, and we thank them,” said Khanya Hospice CEO, Neil McDonald.

“Cancer is a serious matter, full stop,” said Rotary president, Aneska Du Pont. “Most people and families are affected by this dreaded disease.

To be diagnosed with cancer can be a traumatic experience, not only for the patient, but also for the family and friends of the patient.”

“Hospice nursing staff offer pain and symptom control,” said Neil. “We hire out medical equipment, hospital beds, adult walkers and sell adult nappies.

“Anyone who wants to donate to Hospice, can contact us. We have three shops where we sell the donated goods and that is how we sustain the work that we are doing,” said Neil. “We take whatever you have to give away. Goods can also be dropped off at any of our shops. Khanya Hospice says thank you to one and all for their continued support.”
