Cat sanctuary facelift continues (PHOTOS)

Another big load of rubbish was taken to the dump.

PHASE two of a clean-up operation took place at Purr-fect Rescued Cats sanctuary in Athlone Park on Sunday, 1 February.

“The work and clean-up continued with another huge load of rubbish being taken to the dump. We spent a lot of time revamping cat shelters, removing old and rotten wood and replacing it with new pieces,” said Jacqueline Smith of 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue.

The animal organisation is paying it forward by helping Linda Weldon-Church who runs the cat sanctuary.
4 Paws and a Tale and Shaun Callaghan of the Army Saints are paying for a few extra days of labour to continue the work during the week. The sanctuary is starting to take shape and looks like a breath of fresh air. Lots of areas have been opened and cleared up.”

In the coming weeks, volunteers will paint and plant indigenous grass which the cats love.
However, response to a call for donations of pieces of timber to build shelters and to place on raised areas for the cats to sun themselves on, has been slow. Timber, measuring 1mx1m in good condition, shade cloth, wire mesh and nails are urgently needed.

Linda is impressed with the progress of the clean-up. “It’s going really well, thanks mainly to Jacqueline who has been fantastic. She has called in regularly during the past week to check up on the extra staff, sponsored by 4 Paws and a Tale and Shaun Callaghan of the Army Saints, who have been working hard to weed, clear and generally clean up the sanctuary.”

“It was only after everyone had left and I was busy feeding all my fur children that I was really able to take in all that had been achieved that day, and how much better it is looking. My cats, curious by nature, are having fun exploring all the new areas, and hopefully they will soon have some new shelves, ramps and other areas to explore too. A huge thanks from me on behalf of all my beloved animals.”

If anyone is able to help with donations, contact Linda on 072-752-0324.
