HEAD to Toti Civic Centre on Friday, 6 February, between noon and 6pm to donate blood and diarise Wednesday, 11 February for a second blood drive at Kuswag Skool from 9am to 2pm.
“February is the month of love, it is also a time to show your love to those you may never meet by donating blood and making a difference to the lives of others,” said regional marketing manager of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), Sifiso Khoza.
According to Khoza, January blood stock levels have dropped to less than one day in some provinces with a national average of two days for most of the month. “We encourage eligible donors to share their liquid love and commit to donating a minimum of four times a year. It’s not too late to make this your resolution for 2015. As a thank you gesture, we have a limited edition sports bag for those who donate four units in a calendar year.”
People who meet the minimum requirements are encouraged to become regular blood donors.
To become a blood donor you must weigh at least 50kg, be between the ages of 16 and 65-years-old, lead a safe sexual lifestyle, be in general good health and consider your blood safe for transfusion to a patient.
