Toti duo to film superhero series

Our funding is dependant on the support we receive.

Two budding Toti film makers will make a name for themselves in the industry when their superhero series airs online.
Novelist, playwright, stand-up comic and cartoonist, Kylen Coetzee and Edgar Roshev, together with Durban director, Dayakar Padayachee will start filming HG’s The Cobra in and around Durban from 1 April.

It will air on BSN Online, an American company, as well on an official Youtube channel.
Release dates of the pilot episode are still to be announced.

The web series, set in an alternate South Africa and taking place in the city Dolex, sees SA’s first superhero battle physcological trauma and social political situations.
“This series goes deeper into what it takes to be a superhero,” said Edgar, who is in charge of graphic design, while Kylen takes control of the writing and the directing is done by Dayakar.

“The series is based on characters created by Dayakar, and Kylen and I also play two villians, White Fang and Grey Fox.”
Funding is through BSN Online and each episode runs between 10 and 12 minutes.

“Our target audience are teenagers who can identify with the concepts we tackle in the series, although younger children will enjoy the action,” said Kylen.
Plans are underway to introduce a comic book and Cobra T-shirts in the near future.

“Our funding is dependant on the support we receive, so we want people to go onto our Facebook page ‘HG’s The Cobra’ and like it, as we need to start to build awareness about the series,” said Edgar.

Trailers will also be posted via the Facebook page to whet the audience’s appetite ahead of the pilot series.

To date nine episodes have been created to introduce the characters, but it is hoped more will follow with a goal of producing a full length feature film.
“The three of us are all people with big dreams, looking to make things happen,” said Kylen.
