Get baking at Toti welfare

More than 300 students earned certificates in 2014.

A COURSE in basic baking and cookery, funded by the Lotto, is being offered at Amanzimtoti Child and Family Welfare Society.

The community is urged to take advantage of this opportunity, more so those who are unemployed.
The course is held over six weeks and welfare cookery co-ordinator, Doreen Goldschagg puts the budding cooks through their paces.

“We have started classes and are looking for more students,” said Doreen. The cookery programme ran successfully in 2014, and more than 300 students earned their certificates.
“We have had success stories. Two women are baking for a school, two have started home industries in KwaMakhutha and a man is baking to raise funds to buy equipment for a band.”

Phakamani Hlatshwayo of Umgababa was excited at being given the opportunity to improve his cooking skills. “I am unemployed currently, having completed the course, it has motivated me to start a business.”
For more information about the course, contact Janet at the welfare office on 031-903-5171.
