Cop arrested for defeating ends of justice

A second man was charged with possession of an unlicensed gun, ammunition and heroin.

TOTI police arrested a police officer for defeating the ends of justice.

“On Sunday, 18 January the Rapid Rail Police Unit were following-up on information regarding the supply of whoonga at the taxi rank in Winklespruit. The information was that a police vehicle was involved in transporting the suppliers and the drugs. Members were observing a man allegedly selling drugs at the taxi rank when a marked police van from Umbumbulu SAPS stopped at the rank and the seller got inside the vehicle. They remained seated inside the vehicle for a while,” said Toti SAPS communications officer, Capt Charlene van der Spuy.

Members holding observation approached the police van and identified themselves as police officers to the driver.
“They asked the passenger to get out. They searched him and found an unlicensed firearm, three hollowpoint 9mm live rounds and 37 straws of a substance believed to be heroin on him.”

While members were busy with him, the police officer drove off.

The policeman, a member of Umbumbulu SAPS was traced, arrested and charged with defeating the ends of justice.The second man was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and heroin. The cases are being investigated by Toti detectives.
