Noelle loses cancer fight

Noelle lost her long fight to cancer on Sunday, 18 January.

Family and friends bid a fond farewell to well-loved Warner Beach local, Noelle Badenhorst / Gourel De St Pern (73).

Noelle lost her long fight to cancer on Sunday, 18 January. She went into remission for 10 years, but unfortunately it returned.

She was born in Mauritius and came to SA with her mother at the young age of 16. She married soon after and had five children.

She lived in Warner Beach and the Toti area for 40-odd years and worked at the Doonside Butchery, Bamber Pharmacy and the health shop in Toti Mall.

After her husband ‘Lucky’, a well-known fisherman in the area, died, she raised her children on her own, and tragically lost her son Gregg as well. After a few years, she re-married Jean at Twini in 1995 and then retired.

She was a member of the Star of the Sea Catholic Church and old Sweetwaters Church.

“She and her husband was renowned for collecting mussels and octopus at Warner Beach at low tide and she completed the cancer walk as a survivor.

My mother was loving and caring. She had unconditional love for everyone and was very giving,” said her daughter, Beverley.

“She was a mother who worked hard and sacrificed much for her children and would never say a bad word about anyone, everyone loved her,” said her youngest daughter, Monique. “She was known for her awesome baking. Her greatest joy in the later years were her grandchildren. My mom was a fighter to the end and she was my role model,” said Monique.

She is survived by her loving husband Jean, brother Gerard, sisters Frances and Rosemary, daughters Beverley, Cathy, Wendy, Monique, Jeannick, son-in-laws Thomas and Glen, grandchildren Sian, Daniela, Eva, Abigail, Daniel, Sarah and Jonothan and great-grandchildren Nicholas and Brileigh.
