Bike shop salesman helps nab thieves

Co-operation between Toti SAPS and local law enforcement companies led to arrests.

The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO), Blue Security and Toti SAPS made several arrests in the Toti area in the past week.

Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson said a quick-thinking local bike shop salesman recognised items that belonged to a friend that three alleged thieves brought to the store to sell on Thursday morning, 16 January.

“The alleged thieves had stolen a pair of bike boots, a helmet and a high pressure cleaner from a property in Tibouchina Place. The vigilant salesman then asked the men to bring more items to sell,” he said.

“They returned to the same property and tried to steal more goods, but were thwarted as the owner had been advised to expect them back. They fled the scene and were chased down by one of our reaction officers and SAPS members, who arrested all three in Warner Beach.”

Jackson said a Blue Security reaction officer who was called to the scene of a theft in Whitfield Drive in Winklespruit recovered a stolen cellphone and a watch for a resident.

“Our response officer was called to the scene after the resident left a domestic worker unattended at home and then came home to find his valuables missing. Our officer questioned the domestic worker, who admitted to stealing the items.”

An alleged burglar was also arrested following an incident in Cato Road.

“The housebreaker damaged the pallisade fence at the back of the house to gain entry into the yard, before stealing a computer game through a window that had been left open.

A member of the CCPO attended the scene and arrested the alleged burglar, who was handed over to Toti SAPS.”
