Police seek drowning victim’s family

It is alleged that the man was brought to the hospital by his friends from the beach.

Police are looking for family of a man who allegedly drowned at Scottburgh beach on New Year’s Day.

 
“Members of the Scottburgh SAPS responded to a report of a death at the GJ Crookes Hospital in Scottburgh on 1 January at about 7.30pm,” said Major Thulani Zwane of the KZN SAPS Media Centre.

 
“It is alleged that the man, who is in his early 20s, was brought to the hospital by his friends from the beach. It is believed that he had drowned.”

 
The body was moved to the Park Rynie State Mortuary for a post-mortem and Scottburgh SAPS opened an inquest docket to investigate the circumstances leading to the man’s death.

 
The hospital records indicate that the victim’s name was ‘Mafika’ of Umlazi. He was dressed in a pair of black shorts.
