Club fed up with revellers mess after wall collapse

They use the area as a toilet, even though there are toilets close by.

Members and visitors to Amanzimtoti Country Club (ACC) are disgusted by the continued mess caused by late night revellers and passer-bys after the club’s boundary wall was broken down.

Chairman of ACC, Dave Richardson said the wall, which borders Dakota Beach’s parking lot, was broken in early December and reported the problem to council on 14 December.
Since then he has made numerous calls to attend to the problem, but has been passed from one department to the next, to no avail.

He initially contacted eThekwini Municipality’s health department, who said it is not their area, but would report it to the relevant department.
“They gave me a follow-up number for Toti health to contact and when no action was taken, I phoned it and spoke to a man named Sandile,” said Dave.

After nothing was done a week later, he called Sandile again, to be told it was not his area and he gave Dave another number to contact. That person said they had not received a report on the problem and therefore could not help.
After contacting the eThekwini health department again, he was referred to a Mr Madinga, who said he should contact Sandile again, which he did.

Sandile and an assistant took photos of the broken wall and mess and promised to pass it on to a Peter Roberts, as it was his area.

“After nothing was done, I contacted Peter Roberts who said it was out of his jurisdiction and he gave me Sandile’s number, who suggested I contact the parks department, which I tried all day on Tuesday, 13 January, but could not get through.”

This is the second time the council-owned wall had been broken. Previously it replaced the broken section.
The area is an eyesore for local and visiting golfers and on hot days the stench and flies are unbearable.
A group of visiting golfers demanded their money back just before Christmas after encountering the filth.
“They use the area as a toilet, even though there are toilets close by. It is absolutely disgusting,” said Dave.

The Sun contacted eThekwini Municipality about the problem on Wednesday, 14 January and is awaiting a response.
