SUNDAY, 25 JANUARY: BotSoc KZN Coastal Branch hosts an illustrated talk by Craig Widdows on ‘the ecology of large spotted genets in an urban environment’ at 3pm at the Durban Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre, John Zikhali Road (formerly Sydenham Road).

Widdows has studied large spotted genets in his MSc at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and also in his doctoral degree to see how they are surviving in urban areas. During the talk he will discuss the results of his research. All welcome. Entrance including refreshments is R35 for members and R45 for non-members; students with cards pay R25. Pay at the door. THURSDAY, 12 FEBRUARY: The KwaZulu-Natal branch of the South African Military History Society will meet at 7pm for 7.30pm.

The venue is the Murray Lecture Theatre, Department of Civil Engineering, University of KwaZulu-Natal Howard College Campus.

The speakers are Roy Bowman who will talk on the ‘Battle of Santa Cruz, 25 October 1942’ and Dr Alex Coutts on who will talk on ‘Shaka – his military career’.
