Donation helps Umkomaas pupil tackle matric

I spoke to her last year and she told me she was having problems with her hearing.

A hearing-impaired Umkomaas pupil stands a better chance of reaching her potential in her matric year, thanks to a teacher’s perseverence.

After Snejuju Cele (17) failed grade 10 in 2012, Dalusizo High School acting principal, Frans Nxumalo realised something was amiss.

“I spoke to her last year and she told me she was having problems with her hearing,” said Frans. He approached the health department, who sent Snejuju to CJ Crookes for tests.

She was then referred to Umsini Hospital, but transportation was a problem and Frans could not assist.

In desperation, he approached Kind2Hearing in Seadoone Mall and explained the situation to owner, Linda Vorster, who was quick to assist.

“This young girl has so much potential, I just knew we had to help her and give her a head-start for grade 12 next year,” said Linda.

Fitted with a new hearing aid, sponsored by Kind2Hearing, Snejuju now cannot wait to tackle the new year. “My hearing is much better now and I’m excited to start grade 12 in the new year,” she said.

“Thank you very much to Linda, it has been a long time that Snejuju has been battling with her hearing,” said her grateful mother, Lindeni. “We have tried hospitals and clinics without any help.

I have no words to express my gratitude.”
