Tussle over car theft lands man in hot water

The driver of the getaway car tried to drive over him.

A Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) voluntary member had a lucky escape after he chased after car thieves in Warner Beach on Wednesday afternoon, 3 December.

George Snodey was filling petrol opposite Warner Beach Prep when he noticed a man acting suspiciously by a VW Polo parked at the school at about 5.45pm.

When he climbed into the Polo, George realised they were trying to steal it.

Drawing his firearm, he ran towards the Polo, but as he approached it, the driver of the getaway car, a VW Golf, pulled off and tried to drive over him.

George jumped onto the speeding car’s bonnet and in the process, his firearm went flying down the road.

He was forced to jump off the moving car’s bonnet, landing in the road, where he retrieved his firearm, but the two suspects had already fled, one down to San Gabriel Road, where the getaway car waited for him, and the other up Gus Brown Road. “Nobody stopped to assist. With help from the community, we could have caught these guys.

We urge the public to be careful where they park their vehicles and if you have a Toyota Tazz, these are being targetted by thieves,” warned George.
