Motorist cuffed at Umgababa crash scene

A motorist has been arrested by Umkomaas police, following a head-on crash in which three people were injured along the R102 opposite the Umgababa railway station this evening. 

While police are still establishing the cause of the crash, one of the drivers was breathalysed at the scene and found to have a blood alcohol level in excess of the legal limit.

Netcare 911, provincial paramedics and the fire department responded to the scene and found accident debris and the crumpled remains of the vehicles scattered over a large area. Some of the injured were still trapped in the twisted frames of the vehicles. After triaging the wounded, medics established that a female sustained critical injuries while two men were seriously injured.

After the injured were extricated and stabilised at the scene, paramedics transported them to various hospitals.
