Much-loved examiner dies after crash

He died in hospital a month after the crash.

A WELL-KNOWN and loved examiner at the Winklespruit vehicle testing station, Thamsanqa Moses Hlophe (52) died in hospital on 11 November, after being severely injured in a car crash.

The accident occurred in QwaQwa on 11 October, while Moses, his niece and a family friend were on their way to a church in Lesotho. Moses was the sole survivor of the crash and was taken to Bloemfontein Hospital, where he lay in a coma before he succumbed to his injuries.

He joined the testing station in 1994. He started as a pit assistant at the weigh bridge. Later he held the position of court interpreter, before being promoted to learners’ licence examiner and later as a drivers’ licence examiner.

Staff at the centre said he was friendly, a people’s person with a good sense of humour and that he enjoyed his job. They described him as a great man who would go the extra mile to help others.

His daughter, Zamayeni Hlophe described him as ‘a caring and loving father and a God-fearing person.’ Moses was a pastor and also part of a band.

A memorial service was held  at the Toti Civic Centre on Thursday, 20 November. The funeral will be held on Saturday, 22 November in the Amahlongwa hall at 9am. For more details about the funeral, call Zamayeni on 072-8221-799.
