Jo Loynes celebrates her century

She grew up on a farm in the Northern Transvaal.

FORMER Poinsettia Park Retirement Centre resident, Jo Loynes who turned 100 on Friday, 14 November celebrated the milestone at her daughter, Elaine Loynes home in Durban North on Saturday, 15 November.

Jo was a resident a Poinsettia Park for 11 years, but is well-known in the area having lived here for some 20 years. “My mum moved in with me after she suffered a fall,” said Elaine.

She attributes her mom’s longevity to having grown up on a farm in the Northern Transvaal. “She is unable to do much now, but health-wise she is fine.”

Elaine recalled that at the age of 82, Jo was helping out in one of the local libraries. She also knitted and was a keen tennis and bowls player.

Jo was married to Reginald ‘Rex’, who died in 2001.
She has two daughters and two grandchildren.
