UPDATE: Armed robbers assaulted restaurant staff

They took cash and cellphones.

ARMED robbers who struck at Clearwater Spur in Beach Road, Toti at about 7.45am on Monday, 17 August got away with R24,000 in cash and nine cellphones.

Five men armed with guns entered the premises through the front door and demanded the keys to the drop safe. When the owner told them he did not have the keys in his possession, he and his wife and a staff member were assaulted. They sustained injuries to their heads,” said Toti SAPS communications officer, Capt Charlene van der Spuy.

The staff members were ordered to lie down on the floor and the robbers demanded the small safe to be opened.

“They took R24,000 in cash and nine cellphones. No shots were fired. The owner and staff members were told to go into the office and lie down on the floor. The robbers closed the office door and fled in a blue VW Polo and another vehicle resembling a white Toyota Avanza.”

A case of armed robbery was opened and is being investigated by Toti detectives.
No arrests have been made.
