Adoption Rules: SPCA Amanzimtoti

If you're looking for a new pet, please visit the SPCA rather than a pet shop or breeder. Not only will you save a life – when you adopt a pet from the SPCA you know you are getting a healthy animal.

Every dog and cat offered for adoption has been thoroughly examined at our clinic, de-wormed and inoculated. We also have a strict sterilisation policy that ensures pets are only re-homed after being spayed or neutered.

You may adopt an animal upon a property inspection done by a SPCA Inspectorate. Should the requirements not meet our approval, we may turn down the application to adopt a pet. Toti SPCA will only re-home an animal within their area of operation, being from the Umlaas Canal in the North, to Hibberdene in the South. Please seek an SPCA in your area if you wish to adopt a pet.

Lots to choose from
Right now, we have a wide selection of lovable dogs and beautiful cats in need of good homes. Please allow at least an hour for your visit to give you plenty of time to choose. If you already have other pets at home, consider how they would get on – our kennel staff and volunteers can give invaluable advice on dogs’ temperaments … for example, whether they are good with cats, other dogs and children. We always encourage people to do an ‘introduction’ when adopting a dog/puppy and having other dogs in the house already. This means bringing your dog to our premises and allowing two of our well trained staff members to allow the dogs to meet each other under controlled supervision. They then can give you their evaluation of the meeting.

Sterilisation
All pets have to be sterilised before being allowed home with you.

Pre-home inspection
Before you can adopt an animal from the SPCA, an inspection of your property will be done to ensure that animals are placed in homes suited to their needs. The inspection fee of R100 must be paid when submitting your application.

With a property check we check that your property is fully fenced, the height of the fence, where the animal will sleep, if there is sufficient shelter for the animal and just that your yard is generally neat and tidy. We also do post home checks to make sure the animal had settled in properly.

Cost
Our adoption fees include health check, sterilization, first set of inoculations and ID disk.
