Support Poppy Day sales, parade

Donations received goes towards looking after the needs of veterans.

THE community is urged to support the Moths and Lions Club of Kingsburgh on Poppy Day, Saturday, 8 November, when they collect funds for the the SA Legion.

The SA Legion looks after the needs of veterans of conflict and every year they organise poppies to be available for a donation. All the proceeds go towards the requirements of military veterans.
The Moths and Lions are once again participating and will have collection points at Lincoln Steakhouse at Kingsburgh Centre in Winklespruit, Seadoone Mall, Galleria and Pick n’ Pay Athlone Park.

Poppies are symbolic of the flowers which grew in Flanders, Belgium after the disaster of the First World War and have been worn since 11 November, 1918, a beautiful reminder of those so unfortunate souls who never returned home.

A rememberance parade will be held on Sunday, 9 November at the shellhole in Ellcock Road in Warner Beach at 11am. Those military members who wish to attend can meet at the car park next to Buddies/Casbah from 10am and march along the road to the shellhole for the service. Medals must be worn. The service conducted by Mills Bomb and Picardy Bazooka Shellholes is about an hour, which includes the laying of wreaths. It is a wonderful parade and has been going on for over 75 years in Warner Beach.

For more details, contact the deputy Old Bill of Mills Bomb Shellhole, Mike Joyce on 083-226-356.
