Kylen’s creative mind unleashed [CARTOON]

His first novel 'Wrath of God' is available on Amazon.

Novelist, playwright, stand-up comic and cartoonist.

Warner Beach’s Kylen Coetzee (24) is realising his goal of making a name for himself as a writer.

His first novel ‘Wrath of God’ is available on Amazon. “It is a dark psychological thriller about the good guy chasing the killer, but it’s written from the killer’s perspective.”

His play ‘Averagely Crazy’ will premier at Catalina Theatre in May. “The play is based on me and my experiences and is one night of my life,” he said.

He was part of a 10-man 48-hour project team, which they had to produce a five-minute film where all the writing, shooting, editing and scoring had to be completed in 48 hours. The team is assigned a character, a prop, line of dialogue and a genre that must be included in the movie. A mere 48 hours later, the film must be submitted and it is shown on the big screen.

“I was the writer in the Hakar-G Films group and the film was directed by Dayaker Padayachee, who will also direct my play ‘Averagely Crazy’.

Our project was a silent romantic film. We watched it at Suncoast on Monday night and it was amazing.”

The film will be rescreened at Suncoast on Saturday, 25 October at 9pm.

Kylen grew up and was schooled in Pinetown, before moving to Toti four years ago.

He has also appeared on some of Toti’s stages as a stand-up comic. “I had all these lame jokes, so I gave it a shot. My friends also said I should write a cartoon strip.”

His ‘Lame Joke Larry’ comics will be posted on the Sun’s website www.southcoastsun.co.za on a weekly basis from Thursday, 23 October

“My end goal is I want to be a writer – and be paid to write. I’m ADHD with a million ideas and I want them to become something.”
