Lizette clocks up the kilometres for charity

Lizette ran 161km at the 100 Miler in Pietermaritzburg.

Run Walk For Life Toti ex-member Lizette Botha bid Toti a fond farewell on Wednesday, 24 September, after completing a foot-numbing triple challenge – Comrades Marathon, Longest Day and 100 Miler – to raise funds for 19-month-old Emma de Vries.

She completed this year’s Comrades Marathon of about 90km from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in a time of 10.41.

At the Longest Day, she ran 12 hours around a soccer pitch at Collegians Club in Pietermaritzburg.

She completed her fundraising quest at the weekend when she ran 161km at the 100 Miler in Pietermaritzburg. This was the third time she had completed the event.

After completed the 100 Miler at 7pm on Saturday, 20 September, she rested for a mere hour while driving from Pietermaritzburg to Toti, before tackling the Cansa Relay For Life event at Kingsway High School.

“My aim was to alternate walking and running for one hour from between 8.30pm and 5am to try and complete 210km from the start of the 100 Miler to the end of the relay,” she said. “Unfortunately I had blisters on my feet, so I could only walk the relay.”

Lizette still managed to complete 26km to clock up an incredible 187km over the weekend.

She raised a magnificent R17, 300.

There was not much rest for the plucky 51-year-old athlete, as she was hard at work packing for her and her husband’Jan’s move to Johannesburg on Tuesday.

“I’m very sad to be leaving Toti after living here for 10 years, but I will carry on my fundraising quests in Johannesburg.”
