Charity shop helps animal rescue NGO to feed, sterilise dogs

Organisation has also helped 55 dogs and five cats find 'forever homes'.

BY the end of September, animal welfare organisation, 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue will have sterilised 98 animals as a result of funds raised via its shop, Tale End Charity Shop.

But this is not all, since opening its doors in February, the shop has contributed a hefty R21,000 towards the organisation’s food bills.
4 Paws and a Tale Rescue is run by Nicky and Johnny Koekemoer. They feed, medicate and sterilise animals in the rural areas of Scottburgh and Umkomaas. Currently they feed between 30 to 45 cats and 85 to 90 dogs daily. Each day is an early 5am start for Nicky, as after the feeding she is at her office desk by 7.30am.

Through the organisation’s intervention, 55 dogs and five cats have found ‘forever homes’ between February and 7 September. One successful adoption is ‘Champ’, a golden retriever who has a ‘rags to riches’ story. He was rescued in Umkomaas earlier in the year, dragging a rope and suffering from mange. After being take care of, he recovered and is now 100% healthy and adopted by a family in Hillcrest.

4 Paws and a Tale Rescue thanks the public for its ongoing support, for both shopping at its store and donations. Currently, it is in urgent need of men’s clothing such as T-shirts and shoes in good condition.
The organisation’s short-term goal is to acquire a vehicle and a long-term goal is to have its own premises either in the Scottburgh or Umkomaas areas.

Visit the charity shop at Pahla Centre (next to Kip McGrath) in Kort Street. It is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Fridays and 8.30am to noon on Saturdays.
A fundraiser takes place at Go Bananz in Rockview Road, Doonside on break-up day, Friday, 3 October from 10am to 3pm. Entrance is R60 and part of the proceeds will go to 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue.
