Hijacked cigarettes, ammo found at Illovo

Robbers are still at large.

THREE boxes of cigarettes from a consignment valued at R230,000 stolen in a hijacking in B-section, KwaMashu on Monday morning, 22 September was recovered later the same day in Illovo C-section.

“At about 8.30am, the complainant was off-loading the cigarettes when he was threatened by two armed men. They instructed him to get back inside the vehicle and they drove several metres, where they stopped next to another vehicle. After instructing him to off-load the cigarettes into the second vehicle, they threw his vehicle’s keys on the road and sped off,” said communications officer of Toti SAPS, Capt Charlene van der Spuy.

On the same day, at about 2pm, a red VW Jetta allegedly used by the robbers was recovered in Illovo C-Section by Inanda TRT’s, Csts D Williams, SB Khoza and A Hirawanlal, who had followed-up on information related to the incident.

Three boxes of the stolen cigarettes to the value of R65,000 from the initial consignment of R230,000 was also recovered, along with a fiream, two magazines and 19 rounds of live ammunition. The robbers are still at large and a case of carjacking is being investigated by KwaMashu detectives.
