Mall retailer staff robbed at gunpoint

Cash, cellphones and handbags were taken.

TWO men armed with a gun and knife held-up staff in the despatch section of Woolworths at Seadoone Mall on Tuesday, 23 September at about 7.10am.

“The men entered the premises and asked to be directed to the manager, to look at the air conditioners inside the store. Instead, they held-up the staff, ordered them to lie on the floor and demanded the safe keys,” said communications officer at Toti SAPS, Capt Charlene van der Spuy.

The robbers took R48,000 in cash, six cellphones, six handbags and removed the hard drive from the CCTV camera and left. “The possible getaway vehicle is a silver VW Polo Vivo, with a slight tint on the windows with an NUR registration.”

A case of business robbery is being investigated by Toti detectives. “Businesses are to ensure security measures are in place at all entrances and despatch areas, before, after and during business hours.”
