Bingo terminals gambling hearings next week

The hearings are being held to regulate gambling in KZN.

The KwaZulu-Natal Gaming and Betting Board under the MEC for Finance in KZN, Belinda Scott, has kickstarted public hearing on electronic bingo terminals, to regulate gambling in the province.

The public hearing for Toti is next week.

“The objective of the hearings is to ensure that the interest and the views of the public are taken into account,” said the department’s media liaison officer, Ntokozo Maphisa.
The board has received applications from its licence holders in its ordinary course of business and is now complying with its statutory requirements, to publish such applications received for public comments and or objections. The board is duty-bound to consider such objections received prior to making its final decision.

“It was encouraging to see the robust public engagement and participation both at the Durban and Pietermaritzburg hearings. The public is encouraged to continue participating in the upcoming public hearings, so that the board can get their views and take them into account when considering these applications. The hearings will be held at venues that are close to the communities affected.”

The public hearing for the applicant, Galaxy Bingo at the Galleria Shopping Mall will be held on Thursday, 18 September at 9am at Angel Rose, Amanzimtoti Country Club, 1 Golf Course Road, Athlone Park.
