Cross country queen claims double U13 win

Lee-anne Blake will tackle both the SA cross-country and SA cross-country schools champs.

STAR athlete, Lee-anne Blake, a grade 8 pupil of Kingsway High School is on a winning streak, having recently scooped a number of victories in cross-country.
Lee-anne who is also a member of the Amanzimtoti Athletics Club, has triumphed at a number of races in recent weeks.

In July, at the Totalsport women’s race, she won the 5km race. Nearly a month later on 23 August, at the KZN clubs cross-country championships, she came first in the U13 race.
Continuing on her triumphant streak, on 30 August at the KZN schools cross-country championships, Lee-anne yet against placed first in her age group.
She is now the KZN champion for both KZN clubs and schools in the U13 age group.

She will test her athletic prowess, when she attends the SA cross-country championships in George, Cape Town on 13 September and the SA schools cross-country championship in Pretoria on 13 December.
To keep in top form, the teenager puts in a lot of training. “I fetch her from school at 2.30pm and take her home, where she does her homework until 4.30pm. Training is from 5.45pm to 6.15pm. She gets home, has dinner and sleeps to get enough rest to be ready for the next day,” said her mom, Lynn.

Two weeks before SA championships is very important regarding diet, rest and training. “The training is a bit light in the last week before championships, but she usually trains six days in a week.”
Lee-ann is motivated by her results, improvement in her performance and the all-round encouragement and support from her coach and family.

She is also keen on modelling and has been busy with shoots for a fashion store.
“Her goals are to to improve her running times, have a successful modelling career and improve academically.” In her spare time, she enjoys listening to music, going out with friends and watching movies and playing games.
