Kingsburgh Lion president’s term extended

Club plans to continue with its many successful projects.

THE Lions Club of Kingsburgh’s Pat Wilson was recently re-inducted as president by district chairman, Ken Toward and is looking forward to her new year at the helm.
“I was first invited to join Lions in the early 1980s and although I was extremely keen to do so, I was unable to join, owing to various circumstances at the time.”

However, when Pat relocated to Warner Beach from Underberg six years ago, she got the opportunity to do so again. “I have always been a service-minded person and supportive of various charities, and I had a deep desire to become more involved and committed in a group of like-minded people. Early last year, I was fortunate enough to meet members of Kingsburgh Lions who invited me to join their club comprising of dedicated, service-minded and caring members.”

It was a proud moment for Pat, when she was inducted as a member on 13 May, 2013. “In December, it unfortunately became necessary for our club to elect a new president owing to the premature departure of our serving president due to circumstances beyond her control. It came as a huge surprise to be voted in as the new president, and I felt extremely honoured and humbled to know that my club members believed in me, although as a new Lion, I still had so much to learn.”

She was inducted as president for the first time on 13 December and recently re-inducted for the Lionistic year July 2014 to June 2015.
“Our club plans to continue with its many successful projects involving children’s homes and crèches, homes for the elderly and frail, Jona Vaughn Home for the mentally handicapped, pensioners, indigent families, the sight and hearing impaired, free diabetes testing for the public and environmental issues. We will continue to remain open and alert to the needs of others, and to render service wherever it is possible for us to do so.”

According to Pat, Lions is the largest volunteer service organisation in the world, and it operates with integrity and extremely high principles. “Becoming a member offers you not only the opportunity to give a few hours of your time in service to others, it gives the huge reward of seeing a life uplifted and a smile in gratitude and relief, no matter how small the kind act. It also provides camaraderie, fellowship and fun with other Lions and the opportunity for personal and leadership development.”
