Third reporting board erected to help combat crime

The community can drop a letter or note with information on crime or provide tip-offs and feedback.

A crime-reporting board has been erected at Kingsburgh Centre in Winklespruit to help raise awareness, as well as combat crime in the area, bringing the total crime-reporting boards in the Toti area to three.

In addition to the Kingsburgh Centre board, there is one near Virgin Active in Toti Towers and another at Pick n Pay Hypermarket at Arbour Crossing.

Each crime board has a post box where the community can drop a letter or note with information on crime or provide tip-offs and feedback on SAPS service delivery. These can be done anonymously. The boxes are emptied once a month and complaints are dealt with by the SAPS head office in Pretoria.

The Toti Crime Forum keeps statistics on crime in the Toti area, from Prospecton to Karridene.

The following people were elected to the executive committee: Chairman, Lynette Rowe, vice-chairman, Aart Verrips, secretary, Lee Lewis and spokesman, Louise Marais.

Louise encourages the community to make use of these boards and post boxes. “You can help make Toti a safer place. Should people find it difficult to get to one of these boards, they can also send us their story or tip-off to the Toti Crime Forum’s e-mail address at toticrimeforum@gmail.com and we will print and post it on their behalf in the crime box. Ensure that you report any incident or attempted incident of crime to our e-mail address.”

With the aid of investors, the organisation hopes to erect more of these boards throughout the country.

This initiative runs on a national basis with the SAPS head office. Anyone who wants to assist with sponsorship or in any other way can contact Pieter van Wyk, the crime board manager on 012-377-2348 or 084-528-0412.
