Cry for help from baby care house

The centre is affiliated to AFM Kingsway Church.

A baby care house needs the public’s help.

The Haven of Love Baby Care Centre in Illovo Glen currently looks after two children – two and four-years-old – but about 100 orphaned and abondoned babies and toddlers have passed through its doors since 2005. It has the capacity to look after eight children.

“We urgently need nappies, milk formula and groceries,” said house mother, Tokkie Ellis. “And we constantly need volunteers, who love spending time with young children.”

The centre is affiliated to AFM Kingsway Church. A member recently donated money to the house, which prompted Rejuan Teichert, a volunteer who has taken it upon herself to assist wher eever she can, to source a play centre for the children.

“When I visited the house, I noticed the children didn’t have anywhere to play outside, so I bought a jungle gym with the donated money and with help from Willem Pienaar and Jannie Visser of the Amanzimtoti Community Upliftment Project (AMCUP), we assembled it in the backyard.”

The two young residents are now in their element with their new play area.

If you can help the centre in any way with donations or your time, contact Tokkie on 031-916-7811.
