UPDATE: Robbers responsible for woman’s murder chased down by police

The Toti SAPS task team searched for the vehicle in KwaMakhutha.

One robber was shot in the leg and apprehended, while the Toti SAPS dog unit was chasing the second man allegedly responsible for the murder of a woman during a house robbery in Iphala Road at about 11.30am on Wednesday, 13 August.

According to police, two men, one armed with a knife, entered the premises by jumping over the wall and tied up the woman and her husband with scarves and electrical cables.

When the woman starting screaming, she was strangled, before the robbers fled with a cellphone and tablet in the couple’s Hyundai Atos.

The man managed to free himself by biting through his bonds before sounding the alarm.

Toti SAPS and the Metro Police dog unit were on the scene and a helicopter was dispatched to try and trace the stolen vehicle.

The Toti SAPS task team searched for the vehicle in KwaMakhutha and came across the two men offloading suspected stolen booty in Eziko Reserve.

“When the men noticed the police, they fled in different directions,” said Toti SAPS communication officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy. “One of the men was shot in the leg and apprehended and the dog unit is chasing the other.”

The vehicle was recovered.
