Welfare brings budding cooks on the boil

Demo enhances skills of those looking to improve their cooking.

SOME 60 budding cooks gathered at Amanzimtoti Child and Family Welfare Society for a cookery demonstration on Tuesday, 22 July.

Pupils of the Durban School for the Hearing Impaired and community members who are participating in a free cookery programme conducted by welfare learnt new tips and techniques from promoters of Imana.

Welfare cookery co-ordinator, Doreen Goldschagg organised the demo. “It is something different and will help enhance the skills of those looking to improve their cooking,” she said.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, Doreen who is an accomplished cook in her own right, showed those interested how to make milk tart.

The Imana promoters made two dishes, soya, cabbage and carrots and soya with sugar beans and rice. “It is healthy, nutritious and easy to prepare at home,” said Grace Matibela of Imana.

Through welfare’s cookery programme, a third group of participants graduated this week. The project is funded by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, and has sufficient funding for a year. Contact the welfare office on 031-903-5171 if anyone wishes to participate.
