Taxi set alight in Eland Road

According to neighbours and onlookers, there were suspicious people in the neighbourhood just before the incident.

A taxi was set alight on an Eland Road property on Thursday night, 10 July.

“We heard an explosion at about 7.15pm and my husband Craig went out into the yard to investigate,” said Doreen Mendelson, who lives in the vicinity.

“He called me and I could see black smoke and a fire over the hill.

My husband immediately jumped into his car to go see where and what it was, and I called Toti Fire at 7.24pm.”

According to Doreen, Toti Fire responded within five minutes and about five minutes later had extinguished the blaze.

“In between there were a few more ‘popping’ sounds, which I later learned was the tyres exploding,” said Doreen.

Many people reported on social media websites that the house belongs to someone in council and it was his taxi that was destroyed.
