MOP open day is a success

Visitors were welcomed by a vibrant cultural musical and dance item.

NESTLED between the sugar cane fields of Illovo the sound of djembe drums beat rhythmically, synchronised with stamping feet and the beautiful voices of singing children at the launch of Drum Beat, Mother of Peace’s (MOP) corporate open day on Friday, 4 July.

MOP is an NPO and public benefit organisation caring for distressed, vulnerable, abused and orphaned children by providing for their physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and social wellbeing.

“The drum beat symbolises an announcement and celebration and we’re celebrating partnerships. It takes a village to raise a child and we are calling on business and individuals to be part of our ‘village’ and community. How we invest in a child has a direct effect on society. Engaging in solutions to society’s problems through partnerships helps us all partake in reigniting the spirit of Ubuntu and supports the vision of building families, building a nation,” said general manager, Iris Canham.

Visitors were welcomed by a vibrant cultural musical and dance item, followed by an opening address by the children of MOP. The inspiring morning attracted business and individuals from various sectors, who had an opportunity to experience the day-to-day operations.

Entrepreneurship development is a key priority to equip the children for a world where they can be self-sufficient and contribute to the mainstream economy. Beadwork from bracelets to chains and key rings were on display, along with art, all beautifully crafted by the children.

A site tour followed with a general discussion of the organisation’s needs and partnership proposals. “Corporate social investment is mutually beneficial and we are ready to partner to business’ strategic and corporate investment goals.”

There are plans for future corporate open days and engagement with companies, individuals and groups who share in their vision. The upcoming Mandela Day presents a perfect opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life.
