No signs of sardines

Signs of red eye sardines, pilchards and mackerel, but no sardines.

There are no signs of sardines, but no reason to panic yet, according to the KZN Sharks Board’s Mike Anderson-Reade.

Mike did a fly-over to Brazen Head, past Port Edward on Friday, 4 July.

“There were signs of red eye sardines, pilchards, mackerel and other bait fish, but no shoals of sardines,” he said.

“Now that the water has got colder, hopefully we will see some activity, but at the moment it’s looking bleak.”

Mike believes there’s no need to panic yet, as the sardines traditionally make an appearance in late July.

However, they have been known to pass deep off-shore on their way up the coast, without any activity on the shore.
