Fishermen win skiboat

A TOTI fisherman is part of a team that won a ski-boat after catching the largest game fish in a fishing competition.

Simon Colley and Roy Jackson won the Shelly Beach Ski Boat competition which took place from Wednesday, 2 July to Saturday, 5 July during the Shelley Beach Mallards Mercury Ski Boat Festival. “I’m ecstatic that I’ve won the competition,” said Simon. The former Amanzimtoti High School pupil came 10th in last year’s competition. The winning fish was a 30.7kg cuda which he caught on board ‘Thunderchild’ skippered by Roy. “The competition was very close with the second fish weighing only 100g less than mine,” said Simon.
They win a Mallards Cobra Cat 360 fitted with Mercury motors. “The boat is far too big for me, so I’ll sell it because we normally launch off the surf,” said Simon.
Simon’s wife Cathy says fishing is her husband’s life. “Simon has been fishing since he was four years old. Fishing is his passion,” said Cathy.
