Damon Beard makes 21 Club tea party memorable

THE 21 Club enjoyed a mad hatters tea party to celebrate Mother’s May.

The tables truly had to be seen to be believed and some of the hats were even more unique.

Thanks to all the members who helped the committee to create the mad hatter’s illusion.

Special guest, Damon Beard, East Coast Radio DJ, hails from Amanzimtoti and his family is well known to many members. This made his brave attendance after the death of his father, Tony, the day before the luncheon, very special to the record breaking 92 members and guests who attended.

Lyn Sutherland, who introduced Damon, had the massive task of highlighting his amazing array of radio, television and compering achievements as well as the impressive list of awards not only for his radio work, but from various service organisations in appreciation of the extensive work Damon does for charity.

He spoke about the East Coast Radio ‘Big Favour’ and how generous sponsors have assisted him to help so many in times of desperate need. But, typically, he is really proud that other radio stations all over the country have started going the same route.

Damon is an experienced Lifeline and trauma counsellor. He told of his incredible fear of flying and how he, after a few graphically described incidents, confronted this fear and obtained his private pilot’s license. He now flies often and fearlessly even if he is not in the cockpit.

Damon has ‘done the Dusi’ as they say in the classics and he recently participated in the Two Oceans Marathon to benefit children who need prosthetic legs. Damon is surely one of Toti’s proud sons.

The next luncheon will be held on Wednesday, 25 June at Lords and Legends conference room at noon for 12.30pm. Members are reminded that confirmation of intention to attend or not and names of guests, must be received by Lyn on 082-572-1328 or 031-903-4026 or Golda on 083-633-6338 or 031-916-7001 no later than Friday, 20 June.
