Daycare centre revamp in memory of late loved ones

A new corrugated roof was fitted, the walls were repaired, new windows fitted and the building repainted.

There was cause for celebration when the newly renovated Masibumbane Daycare Centre in KwaMakhutha was officially handed over to eThekwini South Lions on Tuesday, 10 June.

The building was repaired by Nestus van Niekerk and Sparks Mtshali of Hamba Kahle Road Products and their team of Bhekani Gumede and Dickson Memela.

Nestus, an ex-Amanzimtoti Lions Club member, saw an article in the Sun about the creche and pledged his support to the renovations.

“My partner and Sparks’ father, Joseph died in December 2011, followed by the death of my daughter, Janine Potgieter in March, so we decided to do this project in remembrance of them,” said Nestus.

A new corrugated roof was fitted, the walls – full of holes from a white ant festation, were repaired, new windows fitted and the building repainted.

The 26 pupils now have a set of swings and a slide to enjoy during break, thanks to Nestus and Sparks.

“We also help the creche and two other children’s organisations with monthly groceries and whatever else they need on an ongoing basis,” said Nestus.
